What to expect on the Day

How much time will I spend with the Doctor?

In general, new patients are allocated 75 minutes and review patients are allocated 20-30 minutes.  The allocated time for these visits includes the time taken to read information provided. This means that face to face time will be a little less than the booked time.

The allocated time may be insufficient to discuss all your concerns.  In this case, you may need another appointment for this further discussion.  It is best to come prepared with a priority list of issues you would like to discuss to ensure most important concerns are addressed.

Our doctors aim to run to time but occasionally patients or families require additional time due to difficulties they may be experiencing, and your understanding is appreciated.

Who should attend?

Ideally both parents attend the initial appointments (if both are involved in the child’s care). If that is not possible, we request that both attend at least one of the initial two visits. If others are closely involved (e.g. grandparents), they are welcome to attend.

We ask this for two important reasons:

  • Firstly, we would like to hear all points of view regarding what is going on. This enables us to get the greatest possible understanding of what is going on for your child.
  • Secondly, we believe that the best outcomes for your child are achieved when everybody is working ‘from the same page’, with the same information, towards the same future goals.

Unattended children

Our administrative staff are not in a position to provide childcare or supervise your child.  If you know there is material you would like to discuss without your child present, please prepare for this.  Specifically, we recommend you arrange for a suitable adult to attend the consultation with you, so that they can be with your child as they wait.

If you are unsure if this applies to your circumstances, then please discuss this with the administration staff prior to your visit.
